WEATHER CONDITIONS

phenology: |

Weather conditions: |
| Spring was slightly earlier than normal, summer moderately cold and rainy. Extremal weather events were not observed in the period of surveys. Early and late July were rainy, and temperatures decreased after 20 July. Autumn was warm and prolonged. Weather conditions were normal for breeding of most bird species. |

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Breeding conditions:
| Numbers of birds of prey were relatively high (Rough-legged Buzzards, Hen Harrier, Merlin, European Hobby, Common Kestrel), but their impact on birds was, probably, moderate. Successful reproduction of passerines, Willow Grouse and Rock Ptarmigan, as well as ducks at foothills, is confirmed by observations of broods. Among passerines Meadow Pipit had the highest numbers in the area, while Willow and Arctic warblers, Redpol, Bluethroat, Wheatear and Little Bunting were common. Waders generally had low numbers, but Common Sandpiper was the most often seen near river. 3 pairs of Golden Plovers nested on the plot of 31.3 sq.km. Wood Sandpiper, Greenshank, Pintail and Common snipes and Whimbrel were occasionally seen, mostly on the western macro-slope. A flock of Dotterels was seen. |
Rodent dynamics:
| Combined abundance of all vole species was 10 animals/100 trap-nights.
Rodent species recorded:
| Latin | Abundance |
| Microtus agrestis | common |
| Clethrionomys rufocannus | abundant |
| Clethrionomys rutilus | rare |
| Microtus middendorffi | common |
| Microtus gregalis | common |
| Clethrionomys glareolus | common |

Summary
of fauna studies: |
| Absolute counts of birds were carried out at an area of 31.3 sq.km. of alpine and subalpine habitats using mapping. In adjacent areas and foothills transect counts and faunistic observation were fulfilled. Data on reproduction are available for some species. |
